The Lenten Journey - 2019

“Beauty will save the world” ― Fyodor Dostoevsky.

These tulips have been on our kitchen counter for about 10 days. Their gradual unfolding has guided my pre-Lenten practice. On this Ash Wednesday, they prompted me to do a little research. The word Lent comes from the old English for “springtime”. Isn’t that refreshing? As we each journey through this ancient season of the Christian year, letting go, abstaining, fasting or giving up, may we also welcome the gift of new life emerging around us. Much like grace, beauty – that undeserved gift of Spring – just appears. May we find room in our hearts.
